Father is murdered by female hitchhiker after picking her up

Father is murdered by female hitchhiker after picking her up in his car, cops say A father of three was tragically shot and killed after stopping to help a woman who needed a ride, police say. William Palmer was allegedly killed by Brittany Rivoire, 36, after he picked her up to take her to a warming shelter in St. Louis, Missouri. His body was found around 2:30 a.m. on Sunday, and he was pronounced dead at the scene. Palmer’s fiancée, Riyen Jones, said he was out collecting scrap metal when he saw Rivoire standing on the side of the road. Wanting to help, he offered her a ride. A friend was with him at first, but left after Rivoire started acting strangely, according to reports. Jones said Rivoire had asked Palmer at a gas station to take her to a warming shelter because she was cold. She also shared that she had often warned Palmer not to pick up strangers because she worried about his safety. “He did it all the time,” she said. “If he saw someone walking, he would stop and give them a ride as far as he could.” Jones said it’s hard to understand how someone could hurt him when he was only trying to help, adding that it appears the attack was done to steal his truck. Police say that after the shooting, Rivoire flagged down another driver, then fired shots at that driver as well. She allegedly drove the vehicle recklessly for several blocks before abandoning it. She was later arrested and is being held in jail without bond. Records show she was convicted in 2024 for tampering with a vehicle. Palmer’s family described him as a kind and generous person who was always helping others. Jones said he was the “glue” of their family and “just a giver.” A GoFundMe created by the family describes Palmer as a loving father, a great friend, and an all-around good person. He is survived by his fiancée, his two sons (ages 21 and 6), and his 18-year-old daughter. The GoFundMe has raised nearly $2,000 of its $3,000 goal.
